DailyNomie Analytics

16 June 2023 by rdl

Hi all, a short message to let you know what I am working on. This is a spoiler of a new feature which I will introduce soon in a new DailyNomie version of Nomie.

Nomie already provides a large amount of analytics options, but I recently spoke with somebody who would like to have more advanced options to data crunch his Nomie database. Although I believe that sometimes ‘less is more’, I thought it would be a nice challenge to introduce a platform within Nomie which allows for further Analysis of your data. As such 💡Nomie Analytics was born.

Currently this new option is in Beta, but I thought it would be nice to show you what the potential of this feature is.

💡Nomie Analytics is best viewed at a large screen (laptop/tablet), but it also works on your mobile if you really want to 🧐. Below you will find the first 2 demo’s of this new feature.

The first demo shows how you can easily create a heat map from a couple of trackables in Nomie. This provides you with an easy way to analyze the correlation between these trackables:

The second demo below shows how you can create charts from your data. The demo shows a simple line chart out of 2 datasets, but you can create very complex charts if you want. After creating a so called ‘pivot’ you can save the configuration of this pivot so it will be available for future usage!

I will need some days to finalize the details and to fix a couple of bugs. Soon I will make it available as Public beta. In the mean time, if you have further suggestions, let me know. I might be able to incorporate these.

For now: happy tracking!

DailyNomie Meditate Plugin Update

2 June 2023 by rdl

This week I was approached by a user of the Meditate Plugin who was asking me if I could include an option so that users can add their own meditations to the prefilled library of the Plugin. I actually thought this was a very good suggestion.

So as of version 1.1, which is now available, this option is included. I have updated the documentation to reflect this new feature: 🧘🏽‍♀️ Nomie Meditate

DailyNomie Sync Bug

29 May 2023 by rdl

Last week I released the DailyNomie Sync Service. While this service had some small bugs, causing some users no being able to register, the Nomie app itself appeared to have a larger bug in combination with the CouchDB sync option. In some cases the sync option in combination with a network hick-up was causing a situation where nomie ‘lost’ its connection with the PouchDB database. Although it looked like all data was gone, in fact only the connection to the local database was gone. A restart of the Nomie app was the only solution.

It took me some time to find out how I could catch the situation in the code, but finally I was able to have a solution in place. It is part of Release 6.2.4a.

🎁 Nomie Release 6.4.2a-dn

29 May 2023 by rdl

This release is fixing a naggy bug which caused the data to be unreachable while using the CouchDB Storage option in combination with some rare network hick ups.

  • fix: Reload the data in store when unreachable data is detected caused by a network hick up in combination with CouchDB Storage option

DailyNomie Sync

18 May 2023 by rdl

I am excited to announce that I have created a service which will let you sync 🔄 your Nomie data between devices. You can use it for free!

Some background…
Syncing your Nomie data between devices has always been possible. As part of Nomie5 you could choose between a Blockstack solution or a self hosted CouchDB solution. With the introduction of Nomie6-oss the Blockstack solution is not available anymore and the self hosted CouchDB is the only way to go.

Setting up your own hosted CouchDB server is possible and there are some instructions available on how you can achieve this:

1 How To Install CouchDB on a Synology with self-signed certificates
2 https://geek-cookbook.funkypenguin.co.nz/recipes/nomie/

The reality is that most of us do not have the ability to get this successfully done. Because I believe in the power of Nomie and I would like to have other people also enjoy Nomie to its full potential, I have created a DailyNomie Sync Service which will let you securely sync your data via a CouchDB instance which I will maintain for you.

The only thing you have to do is to

1. install the sync plugin within Nomie
2. register for the service in the sync plugin
3. receive your credentials in your email
4. use these credentials to logon to the DailyNomie CouchDB service
5. start syncing between devices

Please follow the instructions as decsribed in the Plugin documentation: 🔄 Nomie Sync

Have fun with it!

Regards,
Ronald

Why DailyNomie?

7 May 2023 by rdl

Since ❤️Brandon Open Sourced Nomie, there was no other option for me to maintain it… I just need it.

Everyone else is still invited for the ride

Some background…
It must have been somewhere in the summer of 2019 that I started to drown myself in the Stoic philosophy. While practicing the learning’s from the numerous books I read, I felt the need to track and quantify how these practices affected my daily life. As an experienced long distance runner I was used to collect all kinds of data. Unfortunately that data was scattered over multiple apps (vendors) and difficult to correlate. My stoic journey introduced more data-points, for some there was not even an app to collect them.

Just imagine my excitement when I discovered Nomie, which quickly became the central tool where I routed all my data to. Nomie became my personal data ledger. While ❤️ Brandon Corbin kept developing Nomie, we got in touch with each other which let to some additional Nomie functionality, of which the Plugin functionality appears to be the most useful. I created a hand full of plugins for Nomie, but unfortunately Brandon had to shift gears and decided to dedicate his time to other great projects.

That was the moment -beginning of 2023- where Brandon gave Nomie as a gift to the Open Source community.

As Nomie proved to be so beneficial on my Stoic journey I decided to adopt this Open Source project as one of the contributors & I further developed multiple Nomie Plugins to extend its usability.
Next to some personal stories, this website will contain tutorials, guidance and best practices to use Nomie.

It will also contain
– the latest Nomie version to install
– a Nomie 🪝API Server, free to use
– a Nomie ⌚️Apple Watch app and related API Server, free to use

I hope you will enjoy and that we can keep Nomie alive.

I will keep on using Nomie daily, so this is my DAILYNOMIE

Regards,
Ronald
